When we left Melbourne, we took the Great Ocean Road, as the name indicates one of Australia’s most famous roadtrip. It took us past surfing breaks, through rainforests and seaside towns.
We started at Geelong, famous of it’s bathing pavilion at the promenade. Then we drove past Torquay to Anglesea to visit famous Bells Beach. The drive was really beautiful because of the rough coastline and waves hitting the rocks. The sea at Bells Beach was full of surfers who dominated the waves. From Bells Beach we drove to Lorne, a nice and sunny village with lots of palmtrees. We went there to see the Erskine Falls. When we walked down to see the waterfalls, we got warned everywhere because of snakes, really scary haha! The drive from Lorne to Wye River had a spectacuarly view along the cliffside. Wye River is famous of it’s Koala spotting, in the town Kennet River you see koala’s everywhere, at housegardens in trees and even on the road. We saw a koala climbing a tree and relaxing a bit (see video). We closed the day by eating famous fish and chips at Apollo Bay, which was delicious.
The next day we started in Port Cambell and went to the Twelve Apostles. The most famous and most photographed stretch of the Great Ocean Road. The Twelve apostles are a fascinating series of big rock stacks. The funny thing is that the Twelve Apostles are not 12 in number, and never have been. You only can see 7 Apostles and if you go on a helicopter tour you can see 11! Nearby the Twelve Apostles you can see the Gibson steps and Loch Ard. We did have a look there and went back to Melbourne after.
Soon I’ll be back with my new blog about snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef and our Whitsundaystour!
With love,
